This super handsome boy has come into us as an emergency back up due to another charity not being in a position to have him back, sadly they still aren't so we have made the decision to keep him so he has become part of the FDR gang! We have taken the time to assess him and we can now say we know him well enough to find him the paw-fect home so he hopefully never has to face kennels or be up for rehoming ever again!
The reason for him needing our help is that his female owner was finding him increasingly difficult to deal with in the home, he was definitely taking advantage and getting dominant, no malice other than some heavy mouthing and lots of jumping up but nonetheless they no longer felt able to look after him and provide the training he needs. We have found him to display similar acts of trying it on here however if you are firm, give clear commands and don't back down he does respect this and desists i.e. if he starts jumping up and biting the lead, he responds with a firm 'no', check on the lead and continue walking - he soon realises he can't get away with it but for this reason a bullbreed experienced home is desired.
The first thing we can say about Lloyd is that he is an energetic boy who will definitely need an energetic home, he loves his walks, loves to zoom round the playpen and loves to play with toys! We will be looking for someone who is up for a fair amount of walking so this guy can get all the adventures, sniffs and exercise he needs. On the lead he walks beautifully on a Gencon headcollar, bouncing along by yourside without even an attempt to pull.
We have walked him round with other dogs since coming into us and he has actually been off lead with Rusty the Lurcher, playtime was quite full on and when Lloyd had enough he just stopped playing and ignored Rusty's demands for more play. We do feel that he could well live with another dog but one that copes with a good bit of rough play, equally he would be just as happy being an only dog.
We do know that Lloyd has been to puppy training classes and has a good level of obedience, he is housetrained, loves travelling in the car, is very friendly with everyone he meets but perhaps does need some work with being left as his previous owner had only left him up to a max of 1.5 hours and he did need a lot of stimulation to keep him occupied.
Overall Lloyd is a big puppy with a good foundation knowledge who just needs the right home to continue his training to keep him on track!
