Our gorgeous girl Kat is ready to start her new life, she is currently in foster having retired from racing in September 2024. Kat arrived with us after retiring with a rear leg hock injury, which had been treated & rehabilitated. Unfortunately, shortly after arrival ,she broke her toe which was subsequently amputated.

Despite all this Kat is a happy hound who has won the hearts of our local vets & her foster mom. This is what her foster mom has to say:

Kat is a gentle soul, she has settled in quickly with my 2 other greyhounds and will make an excellent only dog or equally a companion for another male or female sighthound in particular. She may live with another similar sized breed of dog with suitable introductions but she isn't keen on smaller dogs and definitely no cats!

Kat had never been in a home prior to arrival, but has quickly become accustomed to all the household noises we take for granted. She is an absolute foodie and initially "surfed" all the kitchen worktops for anything to eat and was quick to grab food from any unsuspecting person or dog. She has on a few occasion shown signs of guarding from the other dogs so this will need to be carefully managed if she goes with another dog. For this reason older children only.

However, Kat responds very well to vocal instruction, is quick to learn parameters & is now respectful of the other dogs food, lies down away from the dining table & does not attempt to climb on the worksurfaces!! However, food being eaten on trays in front of the TV is still a work in progress.

Like most kennel dogs, Kat was not house trained however has soon picked up the rules & now only has the occasional accident but even then obligingly locates herself on a puppy pad bless her!

Kat is a young greyhound at only 3 years old and she is very human oriented, she is a "velcro dog" -attaching herself firmly to her chosen human in a classic greyhound lean or pushing herself to the front of the pack to get a cuddle. She has been left for 4 hours with no issues, but only with the company of one of my other greyhounds -she is not a fan of being left alone so work to build this up will be needed if she is the only dog in the home.

Kat has to be near her human or dog companion all the time, she happily shares a bed, sofa, chair with my female greyhound or a willing human - so would benefit from someone being around most of the time or someone prepared to build up the time she is happy to remain alone.

Due to the toe amputation, Kat is currently only on short toilet walks only,  so at this point I cant comment on her lead work, but she shows all the signs of being an easy greyhound who just needs the opportunity to learn how to play with toys, lickimats, go on walks  & other fun things - although she would be best walked on the lead  or in a controlled space to limit zoomies due to her previous leg injuries.

Kat is a young greyhound who is a  joy to foster and deserves to find her own sofa & human bless her.
